Michael Carrick appointed Manchester United head coach until end of the season
"He will be joined on the bench by his new-look backroom staff, which includes former Chelsea and England assistant manager Steve Holland, his old first-team coach at Middlesbrough Jonathan Woodgate, Travis Binnion, United's Under-21s head coach, and Jonny Evans, who has made a quick return to the club after leaving his position as loans manager earlier in the campaign. Goalkeeping coach Craig Mawson will also form part of Carrick's team."
"Carrick will lock horns with Pep Guardiola's Manchester City on Saturday lunchtime, before a trip to Arsenal the following weekend. Carrick's remit will be to lead United in their final 17 games of the campaign, with the Premier League the only remaining front on which they are competing after their FA Cup exit last time out. Darren Fletcher, Carrick's ex-team-mate, has overseen the senior side for the last two games following Ruben Amorim's sacking last week,"
Michael Carrick has returned to Manchester United as interim manager after leaving his first-team coach role in 2021. He made 464 appearances for the club, winning five Premier League titles and one Champions League. Carrick previously worked under Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and stepped in as caretaker when Solskjaer was sacked in November 2021. He will manage the final 17 Premier League matches, beginning with the Manchester derby against Manchester City and then Arsenal. His backroom staff includes Steve Holland, Jonathan Woodgate, Travis Binnion, Jonny Evans and goalkeeping coach Craig Mawson. Darren Fletcher briefly oversaw two games before returning to the U18s.
