"That's at least what Lionsgate is betting on. According to The Athletic, the studio that brought you Twilight and Saw is developing a semi-anthologized, The Crown- style generational drama about Manchester United - its founding, its rise, and its rivalries. If the show goes to series, the team will receive a multimillion-pound payout. More cash for Man U? Arsenal fans are fuming."
"Manchester United F.C. was founded in 1878 as the club for workers at the Newton Heath depot of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway. The club became Manchester United in 1902 but really took off in the '50s under the management of Matt Busby. From there, it became one of the most supported teams in any sport. The new show would touch on events like the 1958 Munich air disaster (a plane crashed carrying the team and reporters, and half the passengers died),"
Lionsgate is developing a semi-anthologized, The Crown–style generational drama about Manchester United. The series will chronicle the club’s founding, rise, rivalries, and landmark moments. Manchester United originated in 1878 as the Newton Heath depot workers’ club and became Manchester United in 1902, with major growth under manager Matt Busby in the 1950s. Planned storylines include the 1958 Munich air disaster, the 1968 European Cup victory, and the beginnings of Premier League dominance. If the show proceeds to series, Manchester United will receive a multimillion-pound payout. Line of Duty creator Jed Mercurio is reportedly in talks to helm the project.
