Grimsby Town beat Manchester United in the Carabao Cup after a 2-2 draw and a 12-11 penalty shootout. Grimsby took the lead through Charles Vernam and Tyrell Warren after an Andre Onana error, with substitute Bryan Mbeumo pulling one back and Harry Maguire equalising late to send the tie to penalties. Cork-born Kabia and Darragh Burns converted their spot-kicks while Cameron McJannet also scored during the shootout. Onana saved Clarke Oduour's penalty and Matheus Cunha missed a chance to win for United before the shootout continued until 12-11. Fans poured onto the pitch as the League Two side sealed a famous victory.
Cork-born Kabia, who counts Cobh Ramblers, Shelbourne and Cork City amongst his former clubs, and ex-St Patrick's Athletic and Shamrock Rovers man Burns were both spot on from 12 yards as the League Two side eventually ran out 12-11 winners in the end of this enthralling Carabao Cup tie. Former Derry City defender Cameron McJannet was also on target for Grimsby in a sensational penalty shootout.
United suffered even greater humiliation on Wednesday at a bouncing Blundell Park, where Charles Vernam scored before Red Devils youth product Tyrell Warren capitalised on goalkeeper Andre Onana's latest error. Grimsby had chances to pull further ahead in the second half, only for substitute Mbeumo to pull one back and Harry Maguire's latest last-gasp goal to snatch a 2-2 draw and take the match to penalties.
