Man Utd confirm where club will play during new stadium build
Briefly

Manchester United plans to construct a new 100,000 capacity stadium adjacent to Old Trafford, allowing the club to continue playing at their historic venue during the build. Senior architect Patrick Campbell confirmed that the new stadium is designed to alleviate previous engineering challenges posed by its proximity to a railway line. Despite the evolution of the site since its opening in 1910, the club is determined to retain historical elements associated with Old Trafford, such as memorial features, in the new design, inspired by Sir Jim Ratcliffe's vision for a 'Wembley of the north.'
The idea is to make sure that Manchester United can continue to play in Old Trafford throughout this whole process," Foster + Partners architect Patrick Campbell told ManUtd.com.
Although redeveloping the existing Old Trafford was considered, it was concluded that building a brand new stadium from the ground up is the better option.
Part of the issue associated with adding to Old Trafford as it sits has been the engineering headache and cost stemming from its proximity to an operating railway line.
Even though very little of the original build survives after Second World War damage, tributes to that history in the form of the Munich clock and memorial will be incorporated into the new design.
