His exit came following a disagreement with former coach Domenico Tedesco regarding the captaincy. Despite this, Courtois expressed willingness to return once Tedesco was dismissed. Garcia is keen to begin afresh, stating that the team will start with a 'blank slate' and emphasized that moving past previous issues is essential for progress. Belgium is set to face Ukraine in a Nations League promotion-relegation tie next week.
Courtois walked out of the Belgium camp in June 2023 following a row with previous coach Domenico Tedesco over the captaincy and subsequently refused to represent his country.
Garcia said: "We're starting with a blank slate. I won't see the players until Monday, but we'll talk to the leaders again about what happened. But after that, I'm not going to keep dwelling on what happened years ago."
