Manchester City opened their 2025/26 Premier League season with a decisive victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers. New signings James Trafford, Rayan Ait Nouri, and Tijani Reijnders featured prominently. City aimed for a strong start after losing the title to Liverpool the previous season. The game saw them overcome recent struggles at Molineux. Reijnders assisted Haaland for the opener after a strong defensive showing from City, and their midfield effectively controlled the match. Before the game, a tribute was made to former Wolves player Diogo Jota who tragically passed away in the summer at the age of 28.
City have struggled at Wolves away recently - losing 2-1 in the 23/24 campaign and needing a last gasp header from Stones last season to secure all three points.
Reijnders, making an immediate impression danced past the Wolves midfield and threaded the ball into Lewis who put the ball on a plate for Haaland who tapped the ball home.
This wasn't without initial danger from the Wolves attack first - forcing the newly re-signed Trafford to work and testing the defence which had been a key weakness for City in the season prior.
