Omar Marmoush injury: Man City issue statement after forward pictured on crutches
"Marmoush started in attack for Egypt, alongside Liverpool talisman Mohamed Salah in Tuesday's latest World Cup qualifier against Burkina Faso in Ouagadougou, but lasted less than 10 minutes of the goalless draw before limping off with a knee problem. Marmoush sustained the injury following a tackle in the fourth minute of the game at the Stade du 4 Aout, initially trying to play on before being replaced by Osama Faisal,"
"A statement from City on Wednesday afternoon read: Manchester City FC can confirm that Omar Marmoush has sustained a knee injury whilst on international duty with Egypt. The City striker suffered the injury in the early stages of Egypt's World Cup qualifying match with Burkina Faso on Tuesday evening. Initial results on a scan performed in Egypt indicate he will not be available for the Manchester derby on Sunday, and he will now return to Manchester for more assessment and to begin his rehabilitation."
Omar Marmoush started in attack for Egypt alongside Mohamed Salah but limped off after a tackle less than 10 minutes into the World Cup qualifier against Burkina Faso in Ouagadougou. He initially tried to play on but was replaced by Osama Faisal and watched the remainder of the goalless draw from the bench wearing strapping on his right knee. Scans performed in Egypt indicated a knee ligament bruise and images showed Marmoush in a knee brace using crutches. Manchester City confirmed the injury, said he will miss the Manchester derby, and said he will return to Manchester for further assessment and rehabilitation. Marmoush joined City from Eintracht Frankfurt for £59m in January and scored eight goals in 28 appearances this season.
