Newcastle news: Contract offer readied for star defender
"Pete O'Rourke (via Football Insider) has revealed that Newcastle are planning to offer a new contract to Livramento, as they seek to stop Man City from signing him next summer. During the summer window, Manchester City were eyeing up a move for Livramento. Newcastle will be confident that they can keep hold of Livramento, especially if they continue their progress and can offer the player regular Champions League football."
"They don't want any reason for Livramento to leave, as he's part of the England squad now as well. Everything's going right for Livramento right now, and he will be fully deserving of a new contract if Newcastle want to offer him one. Livramento is one of Newcastle's most important players, having started regularly at right-back and left-back over the last 12-18 months."
Newcastle signed Tino Livramento two years ago from Southampton and he has developed into one of the best young full-backs and an England international. His form has attracted interest, notably from Manchester City, and City monitored him during the summer transfer window. Newcastle plan to offer Livramento a new contract to prevent a City move and to lock him into a long-term role at St James' Park. The club believe continued progress and regular Champions League football will help retain him. Livramento has started regularly at both right-back and left-back over the last 12–18 months and is considered one of Newcastle's most important players.
