Man City won't take risk on 'suffering' Rodri's return
"Do you know what it means playing without the best player in the world two seasons ago? Our main player, when we won the Treble and playing 70 games. [Then] during one year and a half [years] without him. Do you know what we miss? I want him back now...here. He is suffering, he is struggling because he wants to come back, but I want to protect him. I want to be sure right now that we minimise the risk."
"Since joining from Atletico Madrid in 2019, the Spain international has been a mainstay in the middle of the park for City, helping the club win four successive Premier League titles, the Champions League and an FA Cup. But Rodri has struggled to regain full fitness for a prolonged period since missing almost the whole of last season following a serious knee injury in a 2-2 home draw with Arsenal in September 2024."
Rodri has been sidelined with hamstring trouble after lasting only 22 minutes at Brentford on 5 October and has played one minute since, as a late substitute at Bournemouth on 2 November. Manager Pep Guardiola said the 29-year-old is getting better but remains cautious, aiming to minimise re-injury risk and expecting him to be ready in a few weeks. Rodri joined from Atletico Madrid in 2019 and has been central to City's recent success, including four Premier League titles, the Champions League and an FA Cup. He missed almost all last season after a serious knee ACL injury in September 2024.
