"We won the treble because he arrived. He scored, I don't know how many goals in that first season and the expectations are there. When he doesn't score for four or five games, it's what happened, what happened, what happened. We cannot forget that in the last games he maybe doesn't have the numbers he wants, but we are in the position we are thanks to him."
"It's not easy to do that for many, many years. This is the challenge for him. When your expectation is five goals per season, you can improve, improve."
"The problem with Erling is he has to deal with his own numbers and expectations,"
Pep Guardiola credited Erling Haaland as essential to Manchester City's season, saying the team would not be challenging on all fronts without him. Haaland scored a 93rd-minute penalty at Anfield — his first goal there on his fourth attempt — moving City within six points of Arsenal. Haaland has 28 goals in all competitions, behind only Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappé among Europe's top-five league players. Guardiola acknowledged scrutiny over Haaland's recent form but praised his composure and stressed that City's Premier League and Champions League positions owe much to him. The penalty, timed at 92:42, was the latest winning away goal at Anfield in Premier League records since 2006-07.
