Blaming immigrants for problems is wrong, says Pep Guardiola after Ratcliffe comments
"But all around the world the problem that we have in all the countries [is that] we treat immigrants or people who come from other countries as the problem that our countries have and it is a big problem as it not their fault. The fact that I am a Catalan and you are British what influence did we have on where we were born? It was mum and dad."
"Everybody wants to have a better life and a perspective to have a better future for themselves, their families and their friends, and sometimes opportunities come in the place where you are born and the place that maybe you go to. Before it was so difficult to travel but today in one hour you can be everywhere. Today the colour of the skin or where you were born doesn't make a difference."
Sir Jim Ratcliffe said the United Kingdom is being colonised by immigrants and later apologised for the language used. Pep Guardiola expressed appreciation for Ratcliffe while refusing to repeat the original words. Guardiola said treating immigrants and people from other countries as the cause of national problems is wrong and emphasized that it is not their fault. He noted that birthplace and skin colour do not determine worth and that people seek better lives and opportunities. Guardiola referenced his international playing and managerial career across Spain, Italy, Mexico, Qatar, Germany and England as personal experience of the benefits of travel and multicultural exchange.
