However, the current state of Black representation in the sport is concerning, as only 6% of players are Black, and there are very few Black managers or general managers. Despite various initiatives aimed at fostering diversity, MLB has recently removed references to diversity from its careers web page. This decision, following a trend influenced by anti-DEI policies, raises fears about the future of minority representation and whether MLB will take further steps to support inclusivity.
It's disappointing to see that nearly eight decades after Jackie Robinson's groundbreaking entry into MLB, the representation of Black players remains at a mere 6%.
