Former USMNT goalkeeper Tony Meola experienced a heart attack shortly before his 56th birthday. Following the incident, he underwent an unspecified medical procedure. Meola, known for his extensive MLS career and as a participant in the World Cup, shared that just five days prior, he had run four miles. He expressed hope that his experience encourages others to prioritize regular health checkups, stating that despite his situation, he anticipates a full recovery soon, while acknowledging that he should have been more cautious about his health.
"If I get one of you to go to the doctor and get a checkup, this was all worth it for me," Meola said.
"I'm going to be fine in a week, but I should have been smarter," Meola reflects after the heart attack.
