"2004 - Two days after trading pitching ace Tim Hudson (17-8, 4.43 ERA) to the Braves, the A's deal Mark Mulder to the Cardinals for starting pitcher Dan Haren, reliever Kiko Calero and minor league catching prospect Daric Barton. Five of the six players obtained by giving up two-thirds of the team's "Big Three" are expected to be part of the opening day roster for Oakland."
"1993 - Top Yankees prospect P Brien Taylor, the first overall pick of the 1991 Amateur Draft, injures his shoulder in a bar fight near his home in North Carolina. The injury will require surgery and cause Taylor to miss the entire 1994 season. Taylor, who signed for a $1.55 million bonus will never regain effectiveness and won't make it to the major leagues."

Five of the six players obtained in those transactions were expected to be on Oakland's opening day roster. In 2013 the Braves acquired catcher Ryan Doumit from Minnesota for pitcher Sean Gilmartin, and in 1920 Ty Cobb signed to manage the Tigers. In 1991 the Blue Jays signed free agent pitcher Jack Morris to a two-year contract. In 1993 Yankees prospect Brien Taylor injured his shoulder in a bar fight, required surgery, missed the 1994 season and never reached the major leagues; in 2021 the Mets hired Buck Showalter as manager.
