Tarik Skubal: Tigers didn't make long-term offer in offseason
"There is no offer, and there won't be an offer until the end of the season. ... My focus is on playing baseball and winning this year. I'll deal with the contract stuff at the end of the year, and then we'll kind of see. And that's fine. It's their decision."
"That's where my focus is, trying to win a World Series for the city of Detroit, the team that drafted me in 2018. The Tigers fans are excited, they're really invested in this club, and so are we. You can kind of see that a World Series is attainable with the additions that we've made."
Tarik Skubal, a two-time Cy Young Award winner, won his arbitration hearing against the Detroit Tigers in early February, securing a record $31 million salary—$1 million above the previous arbitration record. The Tigers had offered $19 million while Skubal sought $32 million, creating a $13 million gap. Skubal stated no long-term contract offer exists from Detroit and negotiations will resume after the season concludes. He is expected to seek at least $400 million in free agency next offseason, which would set a pitcher record. Despite contract discussions, Skubal emphasized his focus on winning a World Series for the Tigers, who have made the playoffs the past two seasons.
