At the recent "Rockies Fest" event, GM Bill Schmidt provided an update on the health of pitcher German Marquez, confirming he is recovered from a stress reaction that cut short his 2024 season. After multiple injury setbacks, including Tommy John surgery, Marquez's return to the mound in 2023 was short-lived. Despite his challenges, he has been a reliable pitcher for the Rockies since 2016 and has recently secured a two-year deal. As he aims to regain form, there's potential for the Rockies to pursue a contract extension based on his performance this season.
Marquez has spent all nine of his Major League seasons with the Rockies, posting a 4.40 ERA over 996 innings from 2016-22.
Marquez's first priority is just getting healthy and getting back onto a mound, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see the Rockies make a move to lock him up on another extension if he pitches well in the early part of the season.
