The sale of the Baltimore Orioles to a group led by David Rubenstein is pending league approval. MLB has the power to require the Orioles to give up ownership of the Nationals' television rights as part of approving the sale.
"Change always produces opportunity," Manfred said when asked about the situation. "We'll see. We'll see."
The Orioles and the Nationals have been in a long-standing dispute over the revenues from the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network (MASN). The league was involved in a compromise between the two teams when the Expos were relocated to Washington in 2005.
Ted Leonsis, who already owns the Washington Wizards, Washington Capitals, and Washington Mystics, is a potential favorite to purchase the Nationals.
