The Reds have confirmed the hiring of Simon Mathews as assistant pitching coach, completing Terry Francona's coaching staff in Cincinnati. This role marks Mathews' first in Major League Baseball.
At 29, Mathews brings a wealth of experience, having pitched collegiate baseball at Georgetown and Temple, followed by three seasons within the Angels organization before transitioning to coaching.
Simon Mathews has been with the Reds since 2021, where his focus has been on rehabilitation and pitching initiatives, including two seasons as assistant coordinator.
Mathews will be assisting longtime pitching coach Derek Johnson, filling the gap left by former assistant Alon Leichman, who recently joined the Marlins.
