Joey Gerber has signed a minor league contract with the Rays, aiming for a return to the big leagues after injuries derailed his career for over two years.
After being released by the Mariners due to injuries, Gerber showcased potential with the Yankees, striking out 18 batters in 15 1/3 innings at Double-A.
Despite his struggles at Triple-A, Gerber's fastball velocity of 93.5 MPH and a decent swing-and-miss rate caught the Rays' attention for a non-roster invitation.
If Gerber can maintain his health, the Rays see potential for him to contribute to their bullpen, potentially under Kevin Cash's direction.
