Carter Baumler received a surprise announcement from Texas Rangers manager Skip Schumaker during a mound visit, informing him he made the opening day roster. Baumler, who had not pitched above Double-A, was initially confused, thinking he was being taken out of the game. He performed well in spring training, allowing only one earned run in eight games. Baumler was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in 2020, underwent Tommy John surgery, and was later selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates before being traded to Texas.
