Rangers Notes: Foscue, Helman, Santos, Nimmo
"Foscue has mostly been a designated hitter over his 19 career big league games, with a couple of appearances at first and second base. The bulk of his time over five seasons in Texas' farm system has come at second base, with a good chunk of time at both corner infield slots, and exactly zero appearances as an outfielder."
"As outlined by Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News, Foscue isn't being viewed as a full-time candidate for a position change, but the Rangers want to be able to use Foscue in a corner outfield slot if necessary. The starting outfield alignment of Brandon Nimmo, Evan Carter, and Wyatt Langford is set, but the right-handed hitting Foscue could spell the lefty-swinging Nimmo in right field, or other lefty bats like at second base or Joc Pederson at DH."
""If I do what I'm supposed to do offensively, it should take care of itself, regardless [of position]," Foscue told Grant. "But having the ability to play outfield gives me some versatility with whatever matchups they want to throw out there, and it makes my game better. So I'm obviously open to that.""
Spring Training will include work on the outfield for Justin Foscue to add roster flexibility and matchup options. Foscue has primarily been an infielder and designated hitter in professional play, with no prior outfield appearances. The Rangers view him as a potential bench option who could spell lefty hitters such as Brandon Nimmo or serve as a matchup-based substitute at second base or DH. Triple-A numbers (.266/.379/.471, 46 home runs) demonstrate offensive potential. Major League results have been limited and poor to date, creating pressure for Foscue to translate minor-league success into the Show.
