MLB Insider Weighs In on Teoscar Hernandez's Future With Dodgers
"Nightengale explained why Hernandez's future directly coincides with Tucker's free agency. "I do, but they sign a guy like Tucker, then they say, 'Wait minute. We have too many outfielders, we can move him.' I think they'll certainly listen and ask teams, 'Hey who's willing to give up what for him?' He makes a lot of money too, so he doesn't have that value that people think,""
""My gut is that he stays put, but I'm sure they're dangling him during the winter. Not that they're trying to save money, but they could pay a big chunk off their payroll. The Dodgers are reportedly focused on addressing their defensive struggles from last year, but at the Winter Meetings, manager Dave Roberts emphatically stated Hernandez is the Dodgers' starting right field amid the trade buzz.""
The Dodgers explored trade interest in outfielder Teoscar Hernandez early in the offseason after a down year offensively and defensive lapses in right field. Hernandez hit .247 with 25 home runs, 89 RBIs and a .738 OPS last season, a decline from his All-Star season of .272, 33 home runs, 99 RBIs and a .840 OPS. Bob Nightengale said Hernandez will probably remain with Los Angeles but could be dangled if the Dodgers sign Kyle Tucker, since Tucker would create surplus in the outfield and payroll considerations. Manager Dave Roberts confirmed Hernandez as the starting right fielder while noting positional flexibility.
