Martin Maldonado announced his retirement after 15 Major League seasons. He made the announcement on his Instagram page and expressed gratitude to family, fans, teammates, coaches, and others who supported him. Maldonado said he fell in love with baseball at age four and that wearing catcher's gear made the game part of his identity. He described every inning, pitch, and moment behind the plate as a blessing. Maldonado noted he wore catching gear for 34 years and spent the last 15 years playing at the highest level. He declared it time to hang up the gear and end his career.
