The Miami Marlins beat the San Diego Padres 3-2, concluding a two-series homestand. The Marlins sit 6.5 games back of a playoff spot. Sandy Alcantara delivered his best outing of the season by pitching into the seventh inning for the first time this year. He retired every batter through the first three innings and recorded four strikeouts during that stretch. Alcantara entered the day with a 7.22 ERA while recovering from Tommy John surgery in 2023 but reached 1,000 career innings and issued no walks. He reported strong command of his sinker, changeup, slider and curve. A fourth-inning defensive throwing hiccup occurred.
