Freak George Springer injury has Blue Jays nightmare scenario unfolding
"With the Toronto Blue Jays clinging to a 2-1 lead over the Seattle Mariners, fans held their breath Friday night as George Springer crumpled to the ground outside of the batter's box in Game 5 of the ALCS. The Jays' designated hitter had just taken a 95.6 mph sinker from Seattle Mariners right-hander Bryan Woo to his right kneecap with one out in the top of the seventh inning. Springer was attended to by Blue Jays training staff and started limping to first base while being showered with boos from the T-Mobile Park crowd."
"Springer, who drove in the Blue Jays' first run of the game with an RBI double, has 10 hits (including three home runs) and a .917 OPS in Toronto's postseason run. He led the team in WAR (4.8) and OPS (.959) during the regular season. Losing him for any amount of time would be nothing short of a disaster for the Blue Jays."
George Springer was struck on his right kneecap by a 95.6 mph sinker from Bryan Woo in the top of the seventh inning of ALCS Game 5 and collapsed outside the batter's box. Blue Jays trainers attended him as he limped toward first amid boos, attempted to jog unsuccessfully, and ultimately required assistance back to the Toronto dugout before being replaced by pinch-runner Joey Loperfido. Bryan Woo retired the following batters and closed the half inning after an intentional walk of Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Springer entered the postseason with 10 hits, three home runs, a .917 OPS, and had led Toronto in regular-season WAR and OPS.
