Mo Vaughn, a former MLB slugger and 1995 MVP, revealed he used human growth hormone (HGH) to recover from a major knee injury late in his career. In an interview, he disclosed administering HGH injections in his knee to manage pain and extend his playing time, acknowledging the severity of his degenerative condition. Although Vaughn was a celebrated hitter, injuries plagued his later career, leading to time spent on the sidelines. His usage of HGH was noted in the 2007 Mitchell Report, which exposed issues of performance-enhancing drug use in baseball, prior to MLB's ban in 2005.
I was trying to do everything I could. I knew I had a bad, degenerative knee. I was shooting HGH in my knee. Whatever I could do to help the process.
Vaughn was one of baseball's most feared hitters during his prime while with the Boston Red Sox in the late 1990s, hitting 39 homers with 126 RBI during his MVP season.
