Edwin Diaz left the New York Mets to sign a three-year, $69 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers after rejecting the Mets' three-year, $66 million offer. Diaz said he was a free agent who evaluated multiple teams, praised the Dodgers' recruitment, expressed respect for the Mets organization, and called the Dodgers signing a new journey. Mets owner Steve Cohen said Diaz's decision was perplexing and maintained the Mets made a respectable bid. The Mets had signed Devin Williams and Luke Weaver anticipating Diaz's departure and Cohen said those moves provided roster cushion and felt clever.
