Dodgers News: Tommy Edman Hopes To Be Ready For Opening Day But Won't Rush Ankle
"I think it all depends on how the progression goes along,"
"I'm not putting that as a hard line in the sand. I am doing everything I can to be ready for Opening Day. But if it comes around to that time and my ankle is 90%, not quite where I need it to be, I'm going to do my best to be patient with it and get it back to 100% and not deal with it for the rest of the year."
Tommy Edman underwent a debridement procedure on his right ankle to address an injury that limited him during the second half of the 2025 season. He played only 97 games last year and was primarily used at second base as the Dodgers managed his ankle. Edman is recovering from the operation and could miss Opening Day if his ankle is not fully healed. The 30-year-old will not force his return and plans to reach full health before resuming full activity. The surgery addressed damaged ligaments. Edman tied a career high with 13 home runs and finished with 49 RBI. He is expected to receive most opportunities at second base and could also see time in center field depending on his ankle health.
