Dodgers News: Mookie Betts Sets Record With 7th Fielding Bible Award
"Mookie Betts was ranked as the top defensive shortstop in baseball by Sports Info Solutions (SIS) and finished as the leading vote-getter among players at the position, earning him a 2025 Fielding Bible Award. This is the seventh time Betts has won a Fielding Bible Award, which snaps a tie with Yadier Molina and Andrelton Simmons for the most wins since they were first introduced in 2006."
"Betts tied Taylor Walls of the Tampa Bay Rays for the lead in defensive runs saved by a shortstop in 2025 with 17. Betts had 16 defensive misplays and errors in 2025, three fewer than he made in 2024 in more than twice as many innings. Betts led all shortstops in Plays Saved (SIS' version of outs above average) on balls hit to his right. He turned 12 more plays than expected on balls hit to his right, best of any shortstop."
Mookie Betts ranked as the top defensive shortstop by Sports Info Solutions (SIS) and earned the 2025 Fielding Bible Award as the position's leading vote-getter. This represents Betts' seventh Fielding Bible Award, breaking a tie with Yadier Molina and Andrelton Simmons for most wins since 2006. This is the first Fielding Bible Award Betts has won as a shortstop; prior wins came as a right fielder and a multi-position honoree. Betts tied Taylor Walls with 17 defensive runs saved in 2025 and recorded 16 defensive misplays and errors, three fewer than in 2024. Betts led shortstops in Plays Saved on balls hit to his right, turning 12 more plays than expected in that zone. Before 2025, Betts had only 81 MLB games at shortstop. SIS marked its 20th season of defensive honors and introduced a Defensive Team of the Year while continuing its Defensive Player of the Year recognition.
