Mookie Betts is entering his seventh season with the Los Angeles Dodgers after being acquired from the Boston Red Sox in February 2020. The Dodgers signed Betts to a 12-year, $365 million extension that kept him from reaching free agency. Betts recently turned 33 and intends to retire after the 2032 season when his contract expires, aiming to be present for his children as his parents were for him. Betts expects emotional difficulty leaving baseball because the game has defined much of his life and provided long-term relationships and routines. If he retires then, he will complete seven more seasons with the Dodgers and depart with multiple awards and championships.
