"His is a truly legendary career, one that we know will lead to his induction in the Baseball Hall of Fame."
"I feel that there's a place for him on our postseason roster,"
Clayton Kershaw has decided to retire at the end of this season, ending an 18-year tenure with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Friday will be his final regular-season home start, and he is scheduled to hold a news conference. Kershaw earned an MVP, three NL Cy Young Awards, 11 All-Star selections, 222 wins, a 2.54 ERA and surpassed 3,000 career strikeouts. At 37, he returned to the rotation in mid-May after knee and toe surgeries and went 10-2 with a 3.53 ERA in 20 starts while throwing the slowest fastball of his career. His postseason role is uncertain amid a six-starter rotation, but the manager indicated a postseason roster spot is possible.
