The Los Angeles Dodgers lost the first game of a four-game series in Denver to the Colorado Rockies after sweeping the San Diego Padres. Right fielder Teoscar Hernández committed two defensive errors that led directly to Rockies runs. Manager Dave Roberts emphasized collective responsibility and refused to single out one player or position for the loss. Roberts stated that Hernández feels more comfortable in right field and expressed confidence that Hernández will improve his defensive play. Hernández grades out at minus-9 in Outs Above Average this year and is hitting .254 with 20 home runs and a .752 OPS.
I think, just in totality, we can all do a better job, All of us. So I just refuse to pin it on one position, one person. ... That's just not what I do. But I do believe ... if there's ways to get better on the margins, I think that way to look at it is completely fair and completely honest. I do know that Teo feels more comfortable in right. I know the numbers don't speak to it this year. I'm counting on him to improve play out there. I really am. I'll leave it at that.
I just know that there's been times when he's played a formidable right field. I think he's going to get to that. I really do. I think if you're talking about the first-to-thirds that's something we can be better at, closing in on the ball.
