"It definitely was hard. I don't think that I really realized that for a while. Mentally, I was fried. I just couldn't find my footing. I don't think I imagined in my wildest dreams I would get traded twice my first year of pro ball, much less traded twice at all. So for me it was a whirlwind of a year."
"I feel like I'm in a better spot mentally, physically, emotionally. I feel like I'm in a place where I have a foundation, can control the controllables and go from there."
"LA currently has the oldest position player group in MLB, so a versatile player like Tibbs is a huge help for them - especially one with his skills. Manager Dave Roberts has also already taken a liking to Tibbs' skillset."
James Tibbs III, a first-round prospect drafted by the San Francisco Giants in 2024, experienced two trades within his first year of professional baseball. The Giants traded him to the Boston Red Sox in June, and the Red Sox subsequently traded him to the Los Angeles Dodgers in July. Initially struggling with a .586 OPS in Boston's Double-A system, Tibbs found success after joining the Dodgers, posting a .900 OPS through 36 games with Double-A Tulsa. The 23-year-old acknowledged the mental toll of the trades but has since stabilized emotionally and physically. In spring training with the Dodgers, Tibbs has demonstrated strong performance with a .257 batting average and .855 OPS across 15 Cactus League games. His versatility across multiple positions makes him valuable to the aging Dodgers roster.
