AL Central Notes: Vazquez, Malloy, Bubic
Briefly

The Twins have been active in the offseason, making moves like trading Jorge Polanco and signing Carlos Santana. However, there hasn't been much progress on a potential trade involving catcher Christian Vazquez. The Athletic's Aaron Gleeman notes that while the Twins were talking to teams about Vazquez in November, a trade seems unlikely due to his high salary and underwhelming performance last season. The Twins may also prefer to keep Vazquez as part of their catching depth.
Minnesota was reportedly speaking with teams about potential Vazquez deals back in November, though Gleeman and Dan Hayes wrote at the time that a trade may not be too likely, both due to Vazquez's $20MM in remaining salary and the catcher's very disappointing 2023 campaign.
Tigers prospect Justyn-Henry Malloy is transitioning to a full-time role as a corner outfielder. He has been working on his defense during the winter in order to gain the trust of his pitchers. Baseball America ranked Malloy as the sixth-best prospect in the Tigers' system. He narrowly missed making the list of the sport's best prospects for 2024.
After playing third base in college and at the start of his pro career in 2021, Justyn-Henry Malloy now looks to be on more or less a full-time path as a corner outfielder, and the Tigers prospect told Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press that he has spent the winter preparing for this role.
