"On Wednesday afternoon (Dec. 10) at the Winter Meetings in Orlando, Florida, the Blue Jays selected right-handed pitcher Spencer Miles from the San Francisco Giants. The 25-year-old Miles will now have a chance to make it to the big leagues after two major surgeries stopped his progress. OFFICIAL: We've selected RHP Spencer Miles from the Giants in the MLB phase of the Rule 5 Draft.Welcome to our #BlueJays family!"
"A fourth round pick out of the University of Missouri in the 2022 draft, Miles has struggled to stay healthy throughout his young career. He's undergone two major surgeries, including a Tommy John surgery last year and a back surgery, so the Blue Jays are taking a flier, hoping he stays healthy. All that being said though, he got up to 98.4 mph on his fastball, once he returned from his prolonged rehab."
Toronto added right-handed Spencer Miles from the San Francisco Giants via the MLB phase of the Rule 5 Draft at the Winter Meetings. Miles is 25 and has missed the 2025 regular season while rehabbing from major surgeries. He pitched in the Arizona Fall League, making five appearances, throwing 8.2 innings with a 4.15 ERA, 12 strikeouts and one walk. Miles was a fourth-round pick out of the University of Missouri in 2022. He has undergone Tommy John surgery and back surgery but demonstrated 98.4 mph velocity after his rehab, giving Toronto a high-upside reclamation target.
