Punk rock in the mid-1970s was not limited to London and New York. Seeds planted in the 1960s took root across America, including Southern California’s the Zeros. The Zeros launched in 1976 from Chula Vista, led by Javier Escovedo, and delivered a raw, appealing sound comparable to Sex Pistols or Ramones. Escovedo continues to perform with the passion and conviction associated with the punk class of 1976. The event in San Jose also features San Jose’s Backstabbers and Johnny. It runs Thu, May 21 at 7pm at The Ritz for $20-$25.
"While popular legend would have music fans believe that the punk rock of the mid '70s came only from London and New York. The truth is that the seeds of punk planted in the '60s found fertile ground across America, including Southern California's the Zeros."
"Launched by scion of musical royalty Javier Escovedo, the group roared out of Chula Vista in 1976 with a sound as raw and appealing as Sex Pistols or Ramones. A half century later, Escovedo still burns with the passion and conviction of the punk class of '76."
"San Jose's Backstabbers and Johnny are also on the bill. Thu, May 21, 7pm, $20-$25. The Ritz, San Jose"
