Lincoln Riley announced the departure of Bennie Wylie, USC's director of football sports performance, following three seasons together. Although well-liked and seen as vital by players, the move was deemed necessary for the program’s future success according to Riley. Despite no controversies surrounding Wylie’s exit or issues during offseason training, Riley believes this decision aligns with the goal of competing for national championships as USC progresses into the upcoming seasons. This strategic change, although challenging, reflects Riley's commitment to team excellence.
We are grateful for the many contributions Coach Wylie has made to our program through the last three seasons. This is a difficult decision, but we are committed to positioning our football program to compete for national championships.
Wylie was well liked within the program and beloved by many players who viewed him as critical to their development, but Riley felt USC could succeed better moving on.
