Son of Bishop Alemany baseball coach Randy Thompson denied immediate eligibility
Briefly

Bishop Alemany baseball coach Randy Thompson's son, Brody, has been denied immediate eligibility to play after transferring from Sherman Oaks Notre Dame. Coach Thompson's request for an exception, given the support from fellow coaches and the unique father-son dynamic, was denied by the Southern Section because no physical residential move took place. Thompson, who has coached for 18 years and faced a career change in 2019, is frustrated but remains hopeful his son will play after March 28.
Despite support from his fellow Mission League baseball coaches, Bishop Alemany coach Randy Thompson said Tuesday his son, Brody, a junior catcher, has been denied immediate eligibility by the Southern Section after transferring from Sherman Oaks Notre Dame.
Southern Section rules require students to move physically to be eligible immediately. Thompson said he could not afford to move.
It's unfortunate. The rules are set up to prevent athletically-motivated transfers. My son wants to play for his dad.
My request was that we as coaches put in a lot of time developing young men, trying to make a difference in their lives... A son should be able to play for his dad.
