Roman Gabriel, a top pro football passer known for his powerful arm and imposing physique during his 16 seasons, has passed away at 83.
Gabriel, playing primarily for the Los Angeles Rams and Philadelphia Eagles, was recognized as N.F.L.'s Most Valuable Player and Comeback Player of the Year.
Despite knee and arm issues, Gabriel excelled, leading the N.F.L. in various categories and earning respect from peers. Although reaching the postseason twice, he had limited playoff success.
