Prep talk: Scholar football athletes to be honored Sunday

The annual Coastal Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame banquet will celebrate over 75 high school seniors for both their academic and athletic achievements this Sunday at the Canyon Club in Agoura. Simi Valley coach Jim Benkert has coordinated the event, which will honor notable athletes from various schools, including girls' flag football players participating for the first time. The recognized students exhibit excellence in academics and sports, with awards reflecting their overall contributions, including leadership and community service across the Ventura area and beyond.

More than 75 high school football seniors will be honored on Sunday for their achievements on and off the field at the annual Coastal Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame banquet.

Simi Valley coach Jim Benkert has been working for weeks to gather the top scholar athletes from this fall, recognizing those with high GPA and sports performance.

For the first time, girls' flag football athletes will participate in the banquet, highlighting the increasing inclusivity in high school sports.
