Marlon Burt, after years of coaching football at his alma mater Reseda High, has transitioned to basketball, achieving significant success in his third season. The team boasts a 16-4 record and is competing strongly in the Valley Mission League with a 10-2 record, currently placing them second in the standings. Key to their success is junior Anthony White, a transfer averaging nearly 25 points a game. Burt emphasizes teamwork and a collective effort to revitalize the program.
"They're the surprise team," Sylmar coach Bort Escoto said.
"Just a bunch of kids getting together to turn the program around," Burt said.
"He does everything well," he said.
Burt, 38, played basketball and football at Reseda, so switching his coaching emphasis was an easy transition.
