Compensatory picks are awarded to teams based on the number of compensatory free agents that leave the team are awarded on top of the seven picks NFL teams receive.
Teams losing more or better compensatory free agents than acquired in the previous year are eligible to receive these picks based on salary, playing time, and postseason honors.
Per league policy, no team may receive more than four compensatory picks in a single season, but special picks are awarded to teams when minority employees are hired away as head coaches or general managers.
