As wildfires swept across Southern California, displacing tens of thousands and destroying over 1,000 buildings, authorities confirmed at least five fatalities from the raging blazes.
The Palisades fire has become one of the most destructive in California’s history, burning more than 25,000 acres and leaving 1.5 million customers without power.
According to Councilwoman Traci Park, the intense destruction will represent a 'devastating loss' for all of Los Angeles and the community's recovery will take time.
Initial challenges hindered firefighting efforts as strong winds, reaching up to 100 mph, complicated air support until conditions improved slightly, allowing for aerial water drops.
