Sydney Leroux teases comeback after missing 2025 NWSL season
"This comeback is for you. I'll see you soon. The hardest year of my life. Heartbreaking, isolating and devastating. A year that will stay with me forever. A year that changed me. I fought and I clawed my way through everything that should have broken me. For that, I am forever grateful to everyone who gave me love, grace, patience and support."
"Last year, Leroux announced just one day before Angel City's season-opener that she would step away from soccer for my mental health. She insisted at the time that she would be back. Leroux, who turns 36 in May, has played in the NWSL since its inception in 2013, and for Angel City since the summer of 2022."
Sydney Leroux, a 35-year-old forward for Angel City FC, announced her comeback to professional soccer after sitting out the entire 2025 NWSL season. She had stepped away for mental health reasons just before the season opener, describing the past year as the hardest of her life—heartbreaking, isolating, and devastating. Despite these challenges, Leroux expressed determination in overcoming obstacles and credited supporters for their love, grace, patience, and support. A veteran of the NWSL since its 2013 inception and a member of the 2015 U.S. World Cup-winning team, Leroux remains signed with Angel City through 2027. The club opens its 2026 season on March 15 against Chicago Stars.
