The California DMV has updated its policy, allowing drivers aged 70 and older to renew their licenses without the previously mandatory driving test, provided they meet specific conditions.
To be eligible for test-free renewal, seniors must have a clean driving record and few accidents. Those with one point on their record can choose an online eLearning course.
Seniors still need to visit a DMV office every five years to maintain their driving privileges, even as the testing requirements have been relaxed.
The eLearning course can be completed at the driver’s convenience and includes installments available in multiple languages, emphasizing accessibility for California’s diverse senior population.
