Riverside County sheriff's deputy stabs inmate who attempted to grab his gun during court hearing

During a court hearing, Joseph Bashor attempted to disarm a Riverside County sheriff’s deputy, leading the deputy to stab him in self-defense.
Bashor, who was restrained, became uncooperative and made an aggressive attempt to grab the deputy's holstered weapon, which prompted the drastic response.
Despite the deputy's response, Bashor was transported to a local hospital and later discharged after sustaining non-life-threatening injuries from the stabbing.
In light of the incident, the deputy has been placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure following use-of-force events during duty.
