Brett Peabody, the football coach at Long Beach City College, has resigned following a backlash from a profane message he sent to an online publisher critical of President Trump. The message, sent on Trump's inauguration day, called the recipient a 'fascist scumbag.' Peabody was placed on paid administrative leave in February before agreeing to resign with a severance of approximately $60,000. He described his message as 'dumb' and regrettable, while insisting it was not a threat.
Peabody's direct message read, 'You're done you sorry fascist scumbag, hope you get held accountable for the bulls- that you spread. Justice is in the horizon kiddo.'
Rupar shared the message on his X account and added, 'I get lots of threatening DMs but I usually don't get them from head coaches of college football programs.'
Records obtained by the Long Beach Post show that Peabody has agreed to resign. He will remain on paid leave through December and will receive a severance of approximately $60,000.
Peabody told the Long Beach Post in January that sending the message to Rupar was 'dumb' and 'was clearly not the best decision,' apologizing for the 'harsh and regrettable' tone.
