Adam Charles Palermo, 39, was arrested for allegedly attacking California Highway Patrol vehicles during anti-immigration protests, facing both state and federal charges. His actions included throwing rocks and setting a vehicle on fire. Following the protests, he posted on Facebook expressing pride in his actions, which led to his identification by law enforcement through an anonymous tip. Palermo faces several charges, including assault on peace officers and attempted arson, potentially resulting in lengthy prison sentences. Other individuals involved in the protests have also been charged for similar violent actions.
"Of all the protests I've been involved in, which is well over a hundred now, I'm most proud of what I did today," the post allegedly stated.
"This group wanted to commit crimes. They looked at the protests as a cover, an opportunity," Hochman said.
"Some of those protesting peacefully have actually helped identify some of the criminals," Hochman stated during the press conference.
Palermo faces charges at both state and federal levels, with potential prison sentences totaling up to 29 years and 8 months if convicted.
