Real estate mogul Ryan Serhant noted that his firm began receiving inquiries from Los Angeles residents wanting to relocate to the East Coast within 24 hours of the wildfires starting.
Serhant elaborated that many clients viewed the wildfires as "the final straw" prompting them to leave California, with popular destinations including Connecticut and Florida.
Before the wildfires, there was already a trend of Californian residents moving out, a shift that accelerated during the COVID-19 pandemic, as reported by major moving companies.
Data from U-Haul and other moving companies indicated that out-migration from California was significant, with 51% of one-way traffic from the state being outbound.
