Laura Rubio-Cornejo, general manager of the Los Angeles Department of Transportation, stated that traffic can be a formidable challenge on a typical Friday afternoon, and with three major events happening, the situation will likely be worse than normal. She emphasized the need for more traffic officers and the city's Emergency Operations Center being activated to ensure smooth operations.
Mayor Karen Bass announced that the city's Emergency Operations Center would be activated to Level 3 to coordinate traffic management and safety during the events. This includes increased presence of police and medical responders to prepare for the expected influx of fans at Dodger Stadium, L.A. Memorial Coliseum, and Crypto.com arena.
The intersections around the major event venues will see the deployment of over 100 traffic officers. LADOT's Automated Transportation Systems and Coordination Center will monitor real-time traffic conditions and make necessary adjustments to signal timing to manage congestion effectively during the events.
This Friday night is set to host the Dodgers vs. Yankees for the World Series, the USC-Rutgers college football game, and a Lakers match against the Suns, making it a historic occasion for Los Angeles sports, with a heightened need for traffic management given the expected turnout.
